VOLUNTEER GROUPS

Ways to Get Involved

Volunteers Groups presently get involved in the following ways, however we are always open to new ideas. So give us a call if you have a new idea or would like to get involved in the following ways.

Meal Donors: this is an opportunity for your group to bring a meal, eat with the residents and get to know the residents. Current meal donors come once a month, twice a month or once every two months. You may choose to provide the meal, home-cooked or store bought, or come and bring the meal and stay and eat with the residents. Staying to eat with the residents allows you to get to know the residents as they progress through the program, building relationships with them while impacting their lives for the long term. When meal donors stay, we encourage them to spread out so that each person in the group can visit with different families and get to know them over time.

Work Project: Some groups find it convenient to come on a Saturday morning or during the day on Saturday. While there are a variety of things that they can do, some group like to pick up a project which the house needs done which we really can only rely upon a group of volunteers to be able to get done. Often a group of up to 10-15 people may come and work for two hours.

Children's crafts or games: Often a group may come to do a Saturday morning crafts with the kids or to play games with the kids. These crafts can take place inside or outside the house. Such activities generally are for two hours, however any time which the kids can have such fun is welcome.

Administrative projects: A couple of times a year, we find administrative projects which are large enough for a small group to be able to assist with. These projects can include such things as preparing mailings, preparing PR packets or other "mass production" projects. Volunteer groups for these type of projects would need to be old enough to be patient and able to focus on the details of completing the project successfully. Often these projects can be done off-site at the convenience of the volunteer group.

Sponsoring or hosting an off-site event: such as tickets to a baseball or soccer game or festivities for the 4th of July or other holidays.
